We’re proud of our century of trailblazing, but it’s time to do more. To take bold steps. To rally around the cause of girls’ leadership.

Because something is going on with girls today. They’re backing down, opting out, and shying away from leading. They’re bullied by their peers, pressured by industries that celebrate unattainable beauty, and backing away from science and math.

The Facts

• Only 1 in 5 believes she has what it take to lead.
• 59% of girls say the fashion industry makes them feel fat.
• 85% of middle school students say they’ve been cyber-bullied at least once.
• Although more than 90% of girls in fourth grade want to continue studying math, by twelfth grade that number drops 50%.

The landscape for women isn’t much brighter. Women account for less than 17% of the bachelor’s degrees in engineering, make up only 17% of the U.S. congress, and claim only 3% of the top positions at Fortune 500 companies. We can do better for girls.

We need girls standing up, standing out, and standing tall. Although we can’t transform the entire landscape in a single year, we can turn it around in a single generation – so that all girls born this year have every door open to them by the time they grow up.

We’re ready to take on a such a bold and ambitious goal, but we can’t do it alone. We need your help in placing this urgent cause front and center on the national agenda.
