Volunteers Make a Difference

Accomplishing our mission requires a great deal of assistance beyond our own dedicated staff. GSCI currently boasts an adult membership of over 5,000 committed and caring volunteers who help us deliver the Girl Scout program throughout central Illinois. By their leadership example and encouragement of teamwork, our volunteers show girls what is possible.

Because there are only so many hours in the day, girls, along with their parents and guardians, have to balance many growing and diverging interests, commitments, and responsibilities in a world of PDAs and PTAs. You’ll be surprised at how flexible Girl Scouting is today. You can choose how little or how much time and energy you can give – an hour, a day, or maybe just a “thank you” to your Girl Scout’s troop leader. Volunteer work with Girl Scouts is totally customizable for your schedule and interests.

Volunteer opportunities with Girl Scouts are tailored to fit your calendar, your skills, and your interests. Your time as a volunteer will provide girls the free and safe environment they need to pursue whatever interests, causes, and leadership roles are most important to them. With your support, girls will stand up, stand out, and stand tall.

“The reason why I want to continue being a Girl Scout Leader is to leave the world more beautiful than I found it; to make an impression; to encourage girls to believe in themselves and believe that they are capable of doing ANYTHING they set their minds to; and to challenge them to stand up to their fears and take a chance.”

Amber Skinner, Girl Scout Leader

Volunteer organizations, like Girl Scouts, accomplish hug tasks with slim resources. For instance, 93 million Americans volunteer over 20 billion hours a year and raise more money than the gross national products of all but seven nations.

Your expertise, skills, interests, and experiences can contribute to a girl’s success. Be a Girl Scout volunteer! Click here to learn more about becoming a volunteer.
